Planning a Holiday with your little one?

If you're a new mum or mum to be chances are you've never travelled with an infant. I've recently been on two holidays with my little one; one locally and the other abroad. Planning to travel with your little one(s) can seem scary. Here are a few things to think about as you plan for your time away.

One.
Make a list. If you think you'll need it. Take it. Especially if you're going abroad and not familiar with the shops/ availability of products.

Two.
If you're carrying food for your baby. I would recommend you carry them in pouches and not bottles. Just makes your bag lighter.

Three.
If possible, for your first journey, travel with someone.

Four.
Go with the flow. You may not be able to do everything you plan. But thats okay, just enjoy your time away.

Five.
Does your infant need any extra vaccinations for your destination?

Six.
What will be the temperature on arrival? Do you need a change of clothes?

Seven.
Flight attendants are really lovely.
Everybody loves babies, well I haven't met anyone that doesn't yet. lol

Eight.
Make sure you include your infants details to the booking. You may need to pay insurance and a booking fee for your baby depending on the airline.

Nine.
At security, baby milk is scanned separately. Can be above the 100ml per package. If you're carrying expressed breast milk or prepared formula, you may be asked to taste it. You can travel with ready to use formula. I had 800ml of RTU formula.

Ten.
On the flight, you get an infant belt to strap your baby into you. If you don't want to do this, you will need to buy a seat for your infant and you can strap them to the seat in their car seat. Ring your airline to find out what offers they have for infants.

Eleven.
Check what your airlines luggage allowance is for your infant and use it!

Twelve.
Gate check your pram. If you are transiting. Request the pram be brought to the transit airport and not checked in to your final destination. Some transit airports can be huge and if you're travelling alone carrying your baby and your hand luggage can be laborious. For some reason our pram never got to our transit gate but thankfully my husband and I had backpacks and were travelling together so we were able to carry our daughter.

Thirteen.
If your pram is a two piece, remember to get two gate check tickets from the counter. I read on another blog that it's a good idea to put your car seat in a bag when you gate check it so it doesn't get mucky in the luggage compartment. We travelled with a one piece system.

Fourteen.
Depending on how long you will be away for, remember to pack bigger sizes of clothes. Your baby will grow.

Fifteen.
Try not to change too many things. You can especially keep bath times, meal times constant.
